Thursday patient quote

Mr. Lumbar: "I have Percocet, but I use it sparingly. I don't like narcotics, so I don't want to get used to taking them."

Dr. Grumpy: "Do you take anything regularly for the pain?"

Mr. Lumbar: "Vicodin, 3 or 4 times a day."

Dr. Grumpy, you get all the fun. :-)

At least he didn't say, "Oh I inject heroin 4-6 times per day."

Guh. That should be more amazing than it is. It's still amusing, though.

Was the patient a physician? I am wondering if the patient is the ER doc who, hearing that I am allergic to ibuprofen, wrote me a prescription for Motrin 800.

Well that's a bit of an oxymoron!

As one customer at our pharmacy told me..... The Percocet is for my back pain...the Vicodin is for my knee pain. Sorry. silly me, I forgot drugs are site specific.

Cause, you know, Vicodin is just candy. It's not the real pain meds.....hahahahahaha.....

Reminds me of the substance abuse group I was faciliating... Someone annouced to the whole group that he quit smoking (he was seeking approval from the AA crowd...see). Ten minutes later he tells me in session that he started taking heroin.

At least he wasn't taking both at the same time.

How does he function?

I took one Vicodin, ONCE, at hubby's insistence, the day I tried to cut my finger off.

I was convinced someone was sitting on my chest, for hours. It was the worst feeling I had ever had.

Maybe I'm unusual, but I'd rather have the pain.

Why don't these folks ever catch on? All we pharmacists know that the ones who say they don't like taking pain meds are the ones to watch out for...

Can I admit something stupid here? When I had my ankle surgery, I asked my orthopod if he could give me anything that was easier on my stomach than ibuprofen (aka Vitamin I) - I was hoping for Celebrex but REALLY didn't want to be one of those patients who asks for drugs by name. He looked at me funny and said no. I realize now that he probably thought I was jonesing for more opiates, even though I never used all of the Vicodin he prescribed! *facepalm*
